Samantha Paredes, known to St. Anastasia as Sammie, is a Waukegan native whose love for music was realized when she started to sing at the age of three. She got her start as a liturgical musician when she was a freshman in high school by playing for the Saturday 5 p.m. mass at St. Anastasia. She still sings and now plays violin, piano, and guitar.
She is largely influenced by her experiences as a student at the Zion Conservatory of Music and the Old Town School of Folk Music. Sammie went on to attend Marquette University, where she worked as a music ministry assistant and led weekly student musician groups for mass. She graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing and a minor in music. In addition to her work at St. Anastasia, Sammie is a school nurse for Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
