St. Anastasia Garden for Reflection and Prayer. A Tribute to Mary and the Families of of our Parish

St. Anastasia Garden of Reflection and Prayer Have you seen the beautiful St. Anastasia Garden for Reflection and Prayer. It is St. Anastasia's tribune to the blessed mother and a place to remember the families in our spiritual community.

The statue of the Blessed Mother Mary has been fully restored. She sits in a  beautifully landscaped garden next to the rectory.  Surrounding the statue are paver stones inscribed with the names of families and friends of St. Anastasia.  These stones are a lasting memorial to the community of St. Anastasia.

Please stop by and enjoy a quiet moment of reflection in the special place

The statue of the Blessed Mother in the Garden of Reflection and Prayer Do you know about the origin of our Marian statue?

Our statue of Mary was gifted to St. Anastasia Parish by the Sisters of the Holy Child. These sisters played an important role in the early days of our parish. They helped with Mass before the original church and school were built, and they were some of our first teachers. Holy Child High School educated many of the women who graduated from St. Anastasia. Many of our current children are grandchildren of Holy Child High School alumni.  So when the High School was closed in the 70's it seemed appropriate that the sisters entrust this beloved piece of art to a community they cared deeply for -- the parish of St. Anastasia.

The statue of Mary has sat quietly next to the rectory for many years now.  It is not unusual to see people visiting the Marian statue. Many members of our community and even those in the surrounding area who are not members of the parish come to enjoy a moment of peace here.  Families members whose relatives are at the nearby hospital, fire fighters and policemen, and even passersby in need of solace have been seen at all hours of the day and night sitting quietly in this space.

You may be interested in adding an inscribed paver stone to our garden.  All are welcome. Many of the stones installed so far recognize the contributions of our founding families -- those people who shared their time, talent and treasure to build this parish.  Others are dedicated to our friends who have passed from this world too soon or unexpectedly.  Still other stones cite favorite verses of Scripture or quotes of saints and provide encouragement and wisdom to those that seek the presence of God in this garden.  You are welcome to participate in the beauty of this space with your own inscribed paver stone.
